Mary C. Campbell (nee Harkins), 86, of Grayslake, IL, formerly of Waukegan, IL, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, July 16, at The Village at Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, IL. She is survived by sons Alex (Mindy) and Kevin (Gillian), grandchildren Megan, Hannah, Betsy, Abby, Payton, Kyler and Anderson, and many dear family and friends.
Born May 19, 1927, in Aurora, IL, she was the youngest of six children. She was an adventurous young woman and a role model to many. She graduated nursing school, worked as a registered nurse, and in 1958 married C. Russ Campbell. She was a devoted mother to Alex and Kevin, a very proud grandmother and an aunt to many nieces and nephews. She dearly enjoyed her service to Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan, serving for more than 10 years as the newsletter editor, a lay reader and Stephen's Minister, and many years with the Altar Guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ, her parents, Charles and Anne, brothers John, Francis and Robert, and sisters Elizabeth and Anne. Her gentle wit and Irish tongue will be dearly missed by her many and beloved friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, at Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave., Waukegan. A reception at the church will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Lung Association or Christ Episcopal Church.
