Jean Faye Henderson- Jacobs was born to Joseph and Maurine Henderson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin August 29, 1927. She was the second of four children, Joseph Jr., Jean Faye , Vadie, and Thomas. The family was faithful and deeply rooted in the church. they followed Pastor Pinnick from Wisconsin to Chicago Heights, where he founded Union Baptist Church. They were long time members in the church and in the community.

Jean attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from Bloom High School in 1945. After high school she attended Madam Walker Beauty School and received her Beauticians's License. A year later, 1947 she met and married George Garner. A couple of years in 1949 their son George Jr. was born and in 1951 their daughter Annette was born. After working as a Beautician for some years she attended Roosevelt University where she received an Associate's Degree in 1958.

Jean later went at the Hyde Park Herald Newspaper working her way to production Manager. She met and married Dallie E. Jacobs while working at the Hyde Park Herald. They remained together until death in 1991. In 1973 Jean went to work for University of Chicago Press were she retired from in 1979.

Jean was affectionately known as " Mrs. J" by friends and family. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Joseph and sister Vadie.
" Mrs J." made her transition on Tuesday June, 2013. She leaves to cherish precious memory her brother Thomas, her son George Jr., daughter Annette, niece Valerie, who helped raise; her grandchildren Leslie, Christine, George Anthony , Stephanie and a host of other nieces and nephews.
