Floyd G. Grider, Sr., 77, of Rockford passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Floyd was born December 1, 1935, in Highlandville, MO, son of Lon and Jessie (Essick) Grider. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He married Linda Wade on October 12, 1962, and of that union four wonderful children were born.
Floyd was a header operator for forty years at the National Lock Company before going to work at Rockford Bolt and Steel, retiring in 1998. He loved being outdoors and fishing, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include children, Floyd Grider, Jr., David (Kellie) Grider, Tracie (Jeffery) Boolman and Jeffery (Andrea) Grider; grandchildren, Brenda (Jason) Horstman, Lindsay, Scotti, Bryant and Megan Davis, Brittany, Jordan and Jesse Grider; great-grandchildren, Emma and Riley Horstman; sisters, Louise Burke and Lulu Winslow; special friend Bobbi and the residents of Longwood Plaza.
Predeceased by parents, former wife, Rose and brothers Jack, Paul and George Grider.
A Memorial Visitation and Family Remembrance will be held in the chapel of Cremation Society of Illinois, 6825 Weaver Road, Rockford, IL on Thursday, May 30, 2013, with a Memorial Visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Military Honors at 6:00 p.m. and a time of Remembrance from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Cremation Society of Illinois assisted the family.
